AiPBAND Event: Conference on Brain Cancer Diagnostic Study and Summer School on Research Methods

Are you interested in our AiPBAND up-to-date outcomes, in biomarkers, biosensing, databases and clinical trials? Or do you want to be trained in experimental design, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, and data analysis by people who work in an academic and a contract research organization setting? Then register now for our first public AiPBAND event!


From 30.09.-01.2019, the AiPBAND ESRs are organising a 2-day PhD conference on Brain Cancer Diagnostic Studies. In this event they will present their up-to-date outcomes to the public and in addition they have invited different relevant speakers. Prof. Wolfgang Knoll, Managing Direcor at the AIT Austrian Insitute of Technology GmbH in Vienna, will give a talk on optical and electronical biosensors. Dr. Leonard Wee, who is a clinical data scientist at Maastro Clinics in Maastricht, will talk about large scale data analysis. Prof. Dr. Dominique Figarella Branger, from the Neuropathology Department will give a talk entitled” "Sharing knowledge without sharing patient data – Personal Health Train" on clinical images at the Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Marseille in Marseilleand the molecular pathology of human gliomas. Prof. Sebastian Brander, Professor of Neuropathology at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology in London, will give insights on the history of mouse models for modelling brain tumors and compare it with most recent model systems.


From 02.-04.10.2019, the PhD conference is followed by a 3-day summer school on Research Methods, organised by the University of Catania and MTA Medical Trial Analysis Italy SRL. This event will provide hands-on training in interdisciplinary research methods and transferable skills for all attendees. The training includes courses and tutorials on general research methods such as literature review, experimental design, basic clinical research training, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), data collection and analysis. For example, Dr. Maria Bellantone, publishing director for the Physical Sciences at F1000, will talk about how to write scientifically and how to submit the work to a good journal. Prof. Dr. Janne Lehtio, Professor at the Karolinska Insitute in Stockholam and Scientific Director of the SciLifeLab in Stockholm, will talk about an experiment design from in the context of writing a solid scientific paper.
